Attention Bathtub Refinishers : Many years ago Bathtub Refinishing the Topcoat (topkote) of choice product codes always began with  379,359,389,hs224, bar-235, this article may interest you. Feel like an old friend passed on. The sad part is that the formulas are going back to International and if and when re-introduced will NOT BE MADE to EXCEED the SPECS like before. That's what priced them out of the Market Which explains why we all liked those numbers so much. On the Positive side 2.5 Years ago I used 379 as a sort of " YARD STICK" for the Shark-Thane Project. I find this a comforting thought to know after the fact that were a great bathtub refinishing coating ended is where I began.

PBRA Sharks Grip Bathtub Refinishing Coating Review

by kjspencer | on March 27, 2013
I have sprayed literally every refinishing coating out there some perform and some don’t  I finally had a chance to review the Sharksgrip Modified Epoxy from the PBRA/EAH.  Their claim to fame is it’s a non yellowing, water immersion, one coating does all epoxy.  I know, I know you probably think I’m nuts, professional bathtub refinishers haven’t used epoxies in years.   The norm for the past 25 years has been to etch, epoxy prime, and apply an aliphatic acrylic urethane topcoat.
Refinishers Have Became Coating Snobs!
Well this isn’t the case anymore!  The Sharksgrip Modified Epoxy does it all.  Just clean with the PBRA pink cleaner, this will leave a light etch on the tub for maximum adhesion.   I have done many adhesion tests with Sharksgrip and found nothing else compares to the results I get with Sharksgrip Modified Epoxy.  I have tested this coating with bonding agents and without, never noticed any difference in adhesion quality.  There was no difference in adhesion between the 2 tiles; so EAH is right a bonding agent is optional.  I also tested the coating with one etched tile and another tile without etch and discovered no difference in adhesion.  WTF Right!  This shit sticks, acted like the coating was welded to the tile!
Sharksgrip AKA DeathGrip
I have found this is one of the easiest coatings you will ever spray, you can literally spray blindfolded and it won’t run or sag.  Na guys it will run but you will have to lay it on thick as hell to make it run.  It really does spray easy though and I personally train new bathtub refinishers with this coating, just because its that easy.
I did notice it’s not as glossy as your conventional urethanes but thats ok because the coating performs like no other coating, in regards to the adhesion, spray-ability and under water rating. The gloss is very acceptable though and a very sellable coating, please don’t let that deter your choice.  I have messed around with different reducer combinations that will produce an incredible gloss then the recommended MEK reducer.  Hey thats my secret and i’m not effing telling you,  no maybe in a different article lol.
I have had Sharksgrip bathtub refinishing coating on my own personal bathtub for the last year and it still looks like the day i did it.  Im still surprised it hasn’t chipped yet due to the fact my kids are constantly throwing shit in it; I mean toys and other items!  All in All its a great product for residential and commercial work.  Its truly a one coating that does all and for $89 for a 2 gallon kit its a steal.
P.S.  I use it as a primer for countertop refinishing too, but don’t tell them that cause they sell a primer as well!  I just haven’t had the need to purchase the primer yet because the regular Sharksgrip is so good!
